Criminal Statistics
The Salt Lake City Department publishes annual criminal data in line with the nationwide Uniform Crime Reporting Program managed by the Criminal Justice Information Services Division. According to 2016 reports, Salt Lake City recorded an estimated 18,000 index criminal offenses, 90% of which comprised of property crimes.
Larceny-theft was reported to be the most popular of all the crimes reported with over 12,000 reported incidents in 2016 alone. This was followed by motor vehicle theft and burglary with 1,930 and 1,807 incidents respectively. Aggravated assault was the fourth most reported crime and the most popular among violent crimes with 1,063 reported incidents, On the other hand, reports of rape, arson, robbery, and homicide made up 5% of the crimes reported, making them the least occurring offenses in the city.
Criminal Records
The Salt Lake City Police Department is the primary law enforcement agency of the city of Salt Lake, and it performs a variety of functions, including generating and maintaining a range of crime-related data and records. However, criminal history records of the city are issued by the Utah Criminal Identification Bureau, which maintains the central repository of criminal history information for the state of Utah.
How To Get Criminal Records
The Bureau of Criminal Identification the Utah Department of Public Safety processes requests for criminal history records and background checks of persons resident in Salt Lake City. Information available through the office includes records of misdemeanors, felony arrests, sex offender information if applicable, various violations and past and pending court charges. Interested persons may request these records in person or via mail.
To make in-person requests, the requestor may visit the Bureau. The applicant will be required to provide information about the subject as well as present a valid form of government-issued picture ID and make a payment of $15.

How To Find Sex Offender Information
The Utah Department of Corrections maintains a Sex Offender & Kidnap Offender Registry which houses public information about all registered sex offenders and kidnappers residing in the state. Interested persons may obtain information regarding sex offenders in Salt Lake City by searching the registry by location or zip code. The database also publishes information relating to the conduct and compliance status of sex offenders.
How To Find Inmate And Jail Information
The Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office operates two jail facilities, which attend to the city of Salt Lake and houses inmates apprehended by the Salt Lake Police Department. Interested persons may obtain information regarding inmates using the Sheriff's Inmate Lookup Tool which features public information about persons currently incarcerated within the city. Searches may be conducted using the inmate's name or a unique identifier such as their booking number. Where and How to Get Court Records
The Salt Lake City Justice Court attends to criminal, traffic and small claims cases that occur within city limits. The court maintains all records of court proceedings and provides public access to non-confidential court records upon request.

Vital Records
Salt Lake City vital records may be accessed at state or city levels. Vital records in the state of Utah are primarily managed by the Utah Vital Records and Statistics Office. However, while the office attends to statewide requests for birth, death, marriage and divorce records, records are also maintained locally, and in Salt Lake City are co-managed by the district court and the County Clerk.
Where and How to Get Divorce Records
Records of divorces filed and granted in the state of Utah are managed by the Divorce Division of the Third District Court of the county where the divorce was granted. To obtain Salt Lake City divorce records, interested persons may query the 3rd District Court of Salt Lake County in person or via mail. Where and How to Get Marriage Records
Records of marriages licenses issued in the city of Salt Lake are maintained by the Salt Lake County Clerks Office. To request marriage record copies, interested persons may send a written request to the office. Requests should state the name and address of the requestor, the name of the registrants, the date and place of the marriage as well as the marriage license number if available. Requests must also be accompanied by a payment of $2 per uncertified copy requested or $5.00 per certified copy (legal copy). These should then be sent to:

Where and How to Get Birth and Death Records
The Utah Vital Records and Statistics Office maintains birth and death records of persons born within the state, going back to 1905. Requests for these records can be made in person or via mail. In person requests can be made at the Vital Records office while mail requests require sending a written request along with a legible photocopy of a government-issued photo ID. The requester is also required to enclose $20 for birth records or $30 for death records. These should then be sent to:
