What Are St. George City Public Records?

In line with the Utah Government Records Access and Management Act, St. George City public records are documentary materials that are not private, controlled, or protected from disclosure. These records include any document, photograph, tape, electronic data, book, paper, map, or other materials of any form or characteristics. Examples of St. George public records according to Utah Code Section 63G-2-301 include:

  • Laws
  • Minutes, reports, or transcripts of government agencies’ open and public meetings
  • Name, gender, job description, business address, and other business or personal details of a current or former government employee that is not private by law.
  • Summary data
  • Public judicial records that are not under court seal or restricted by the rules of civil or criminal procedure
  • Department of Commerce records relating to name changes, mergers, incorporations, and uniform commercial code filings

It is important to note that not all records kept by government bodies in St. George City are public. Some may be unavailable because of laws or court orders restricting public access to the document, usually because of the confidential or private nature of the information contained in the record. Records that are private, controlled, and protected from public disclosure by law under Utah Code Section 63G-2-302 include:

  • Records that disclose medical history information
  • Current or former employee records that disclose private information like social security number, home address or phone number, insurance coverage, and other related details
  • Library records that may identify a patron
  • Parts of a voter registration record that discloses the individual’s birth date, social security number, ID card number, email address, and driver license number
  • Withheld or private voter registration record

Records may be fully exempted or have sections that are not publicly available. Individuals may still be able to inspect or collect copies of the public sections of a partially restricted record.

Public city records may also be accessible from third-party websites. Record seekers may opt to use these non-governmental platforms to search for a specific form or multiple city records. However, users will need to provide enough information to assist with the search, such as:

  • The address of the requestor
  • A case number or file number (if known)
  • The location of the document or person involved
  • The name of the subject involved in the record (not juvenile)
  • The last known or current address of the registrant

Government agencies do not sponsor third-party sites. Because of this, record availability and results may vary.
